C2008 includes numerous new features. The Readme file included with the download provides full details.
— Extended 3D graphics tests to match the power of the new graphics cards.
— Two new tests in the suite of 3D graphics tests:
Hidden-line rendering
Flat-shade rendering
— Modified 2D graphics tests to match the new capabilities of AutoCAD.
— Adjusted Index categories to better reflect individual hardware components:
Total C2008 Index
3D Graphics Index
2D Graphics Index
Disk Index
CPU index
— Expanded test options, to give users a choice:
3D and 2D test
2D-only test
3D-only test
— A new Compare Option at the end of the test:
Save data file for later reference
Compare current test to previous test
— New alert boxes with helpful notes about the new Compare option:
Included toggle for turning the alert boxes on and off
— Improved Readme file with detailed instructions on exactly how to configure a workstation for the benchmark and 19 screen shots to help with the configuration.
The Cadalyst Systems Benchmark 2008 (C2008) is designed to test
and compare systems running AutoCAD. The test compares the
current test times with a set of base times and computes an
index number. This number represents a ratio of the current
test system's performance to the base system's performance;
higher numbers are better. For instance, a resulting Total Index score of
3.5 means the test system is 3.5 times faster than the
base system for the functions tested. Please review the Readme file in the accompanying download for full details and instructions. Remember, as is true for all benchmark tests, the C2008 is merely a
guide for measuring system performance.
The Cadalyst Systems Benchmark 2008 is designed to work with AutoCAD 2008, as well as older versions back to v2000. One caveat: During operations involving multiple editing functions, which occur frequently during the 2D portions of the C2008 benchmark, versions of AutoCAD since 2006 do not update the screen as frequently as do earlier versions. This artificially inflates the 2D scores. So, to fairly compare test scores among different workstations, each must run the same version of AutoCAD.
As before, the C2008 benchmark reports a Total Index score, which is calculated based on four sub-index scores. These four indexes are: 3D Graphics, 2D Graphics, Disk, and CPU.
C2008 is the latest update of the Cadalyst Systems Benchmark, originally released in 1996. All versions have been developed by Art Liddle, a former editor of Cadalyst magazine and now a physics teacher at Springfield High School in Springfield, Oregon.
Cadalyst thanks nVIDIA for providing three graphics cards for development of the C2008 benchmark, including the nVIDIA Quadro FX550, FX3500, and FX5600.
Files to Download Click this link to download the test files for C2008:
Copy all the test files to a test directory, such as C2008_test. If necessary, uncompress the files. You'll need approximately 40 MB of disk space for all test files.
The included README_C2008.TXT file includes a full description of the benchmark and related files as well as instructions for all. Be sure to review this document carefully and view all included screen shots for full details on running the tests.
