The C2006 Cadalyst Systems Benchmark is designed to work with AutoCAD 2006, as well as older versions back to R2000. One caveat: During operations involving multiple editing functions, which occur frequently during the 2D portions of the C2006 benchmark, AutoCAD 2006 does not update the screen as frequently as do earlier versions. This artificially inflates the 2D scores. So, to fairly compare test scores among different workstations, each must run the same version of AutoCAD.

As before, the C2006 benchmark reports a Total Index score, which is calculated based on four sub-index scores. These four indexes are weighted as follows: 3D Wireframe (2x), 3D Gouraud (2x), Non-graphic (3x), and 2D Functions (1x).

C2006 is an update of the C2000 Cadalyst Systems Benchmark, which was released six years ago. Both C2000 and C2006 were developed by Art Liddle, a former editor of Cadalyst magazine now a physics teacher at Springfield High School in Springfield, Oregon.

Cadalyst thanks Polywell Computers for providing the Poly 2050A Dual Opteron workstation for development of the C2006 benchmark. The Poly 2050A included AMD Dual Core Opteron 280 (2.4GHz) CPUs, 2GB of PC3200 memory and an nVIDIA Quadro FX4500 graphics card.
