Luxology to Implement Pixar's Subdivision Surface Modeling Technology
New capabilities will appear in modo 3D modeling and rendering software for architects, industrial designers, package designers, and game developers.

Pixar Animation Studios and Luxology reportedly finalized an agreement under which Pixar will license its patented subdivision surface modeling technology to Luxology.

Luxology made no specific announcement as to when the new technology might be incorporated into its modo software offerings for architects, industrial designers, package designers, and game developers. Specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

"Pixar is not only an important client of Luxology's, they are also a key source of technology for the computer graphics and entertainment industries," said Brad Peebler, president and cofounder of Luxology. "We are very excited to have clear rights to use some of the most fundamental subdivision surface modeling and rendering algorithms on the planet."
