EIZO/Nanao
Star rating: 4 stars out of 5
The Eizo/Nanao FlexScan F930 is based on an Invar shadow-mask CRT that produces a 19.7" viewable area with a 0.25mm dot pitch. Horizontal scan rates are 30130KHz, and vertical scan rates are 50160Hz. Displays of up to 2048X1536 at 80Hz are possible, and what Eizo/ Nanao calls a SuperErgo Coat is effective at minimizing reflections. The monitor provides both BNC and standard mini D-sub connectors. An attachable speaker unit ($45 ESP) for multi-media applications is available as an accessory, as is an attachable USB hub unit ($99 ESP) that provides one upstream port and four down-stream ports.
The F930 weighs in at 63.8lb and offers a standard warranty: three years on labor, parts, and CRT. Though the F930 offers a good range of adjustments via an on-screen menu and offers such extras as menu positioning and the ability to save settings, accessing them is not as easy as it could be. The front bezel of the monitor has a button for brightness and contrast, an autosizing button, and a single button for controlling the menu. I couldn't use this buttonwhich has up and down, right and left, and press controls with any degree of accuracy.
The FlexScan F930 didn't produce outstanding results on the CADALYST testsonly brightness and focus produced a perfect score. Above-average scores appeared for contrast, focus, geometric distortion, and convergence raster rotation, with lower results for color purity. Reds tended toward magenta, and separation among greens was indistinct. The Eizo/Nanao FlexScan F930 needs some reengineering to improve the quality and usability of the on-screen menu controls. R.L.
