Free Tool Diagnoses Memory and SSD Compatibility for Your CAD Machines24 Feb, 2015 By: Robert Green
Ready to upgrade your current system with new memory? Crucial can help you figure out the details.
If you ever have to specify random-access memory (RAM) or solid-state drive (SSD) upgrades to older workstations, you've no doubt scratched your head and wondered what type of memory modules, which speed, and which module factor you should buy for the RAM, and what controller technology is required for the SSD. To find the answers, you can break open the old system manuals (if you have them), scour the Internet for ages, or do what I do: head over to the Crucial web site and let its free system scanner tool do the heavy lifting for you.
At Crucial.com, you'll find two ways to analyze your system for RAM and SSD compatibility: by using the scanner module (easiest) or by inputting information via the Advisor tool.
Assuming your IT department lets you download the scanner module, I recommend that approach. Simply let the scanner run and it'll return a list of compatible RAM and SSD options, which of course are available from the Crucial store. But whether you purchase anything from the company or not, you'll now know the exact specifications of what you need.
The scanner correctly identified all the proper components from my trusty old Sony laptop.
I've used the Crucial web site to diagnose machine compatibilities for years, but the new scanner utility really is top-notch. I hope you find it as useful as I do.
