PTC Acquires ITEDO, IsoDraw Products (Cadalyst Daily Archive)

Software reuses 2D and 3D design data to generate technical illustrations for instruction manuals, parts catalogs and other downstream publishing

PTC today announced its acquisition of German software provider ITEDO for approximately $17 million in cash. ITEDO develops the IsoDraw family of technical illustration products and counts more than 2,400 customers in discrete manufacturing verticals such as automotive, industrial equipment, aerospace and defense.p>

IsoDraw can be used to create illustrations from scratch, but also to generate them from existing 3D and 2D design data. IsoDraw imports this data via neutral formats such as IGES, DWG, DXF, VRML and OBJ. Illustrations can be linked to the source data so they update whenever a design change occurs.

The ITEDO applications will join PTC's Arbortext product family. PTC says customers can use Pro/ENGINEER data as the basis for technical illustrations. The Windchill document management tool offers the ability to store all 2D and 3D graphic content as well as XML-based textual instructions in a centrally located content management system. Illustrations and text can then be reused and repurposed for different publications and formats.  Read more >>
