This Week's Software Tips
Save Named Views with View Manager
Laura Bride, a documentation specialist, shares with us her method of saving named views in order to more easily navigate inside a busy drawing. "I use AutoCAD Map 2009; however, this tip is applicable to any version of AutoCAD. I work with street maps of cities and towns that show the buildings and addresses of our clients." Freeze Block Layers
Drafter Robert Somppi sends us a tip on freezing (or turning off) layers in a block. "Sometimes when trying to freeze, turn off, or lock a layer that a block is on, you'll find you can only freeze layer 0 (zero) or other layers that are contained within that block. To avoid this problem, select the block, then click on the Layer drop-down list in the Object Properties toolbar (which shows the layer that the block is on), and finally click on the icon next to that layer." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
New Hatch, Reverse Type, and Purge Features in AutoCAD 2010
Frequent tipster Leonid Nemirovsky sends us several small tips about new features he has discovered in AutoCAD 2010. "There is an addition to the Hatch command: now, if you have a gap in a boundary, AutoCAD points it out to you." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Select an Overlapped Object
Bram Van Haren sends us advice about selecting objects when they are stacked on top of each other or are overlapping. "You can try to use the Draw Order command, but that can be difficult if there are several objects in one place. With the combination Shift+Spacebar, you can toggle through the overlapping objects and select the correct object very easily." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
