This Week's Software Tips
Specify Offsets in Inches While Working with Feet
Leland Leahy sends the following AutoCAD macro that will offset objects in inches — even when you are working in feet as your unit setting. "This is useful for civil engineers who work with feet as a unit." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Draw Shapes Easily Using Excel-Based Profiles
Constantin Stoilov sends us a spreadsheet that can help speed up shape drawing in AutoCAD. Constantin uses it to draw cross sections of steel profiles such as HEA, HEB, and IPE. "Attached is an Excel table. To use it, simply right-click in the AutoCAD command cell and 'copy' the contents." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Regen to Zoom Again
Frequent tipster Leonid Nemirovsky sends us a tip on resetting the Zoom and Pan commands. "From time to time, when performing the Zoom command in AutoCAD, I stumble into a small problem. At a certain point it stops zooming out or panning. To resolve this problem, simply execute a Regen or Regenall at the Command prompt, and zooming and panning will resume." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Call for Tips: 3D Modeling, Rendering, and Animation
