This Week's Software Tips
Insert Spreadsheets into Tables
Frequent tipster Leonid Nemirovsky (check out his Better Than Nothing AutoLISP site) sends us a tip for inserting an Excel spreadsheet into an AutoCAD table. "Initiate the Table command by typing Table on the Command line or selecting Table from the ribbon, a pull-down menu, etc. Select the From a data link radio button in the Insert Table dialog box." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Paste Copied Objects as a Block
Leonid Nemirovsky also discovered a method to paste objects as a block. "I was using Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V to copy and paste AutoCAD objects. But when I was pasting, I accidentally held down not Ctrl+V but Ctrl+Shift+V!" View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Pick a Node Every Time
Engineering specialist Allen Jessup sends us a tip on using Osnaps. "I often have to draw lines — especially random lines and plines based on nodes — using Osnaps. One source of problems with this method is that AutoCAD will let you pick a point in the drawing that is not a node. Even with the running Osnap set to Node, you can still miss a pick and end up with an invalid vertex." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Select an Object Before Breaking It
Shawn Evjen wrote a LISP routine that reorganizes the Break command, allowing you to select an object first, and then choose where to break it. "Generally when I use the Break command, there are too many other objects where I want the actual break to occur. I was constantly selecting the entity where the drawing was a little emptier, and would need to specify the first point specifically." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
