This Week's Software Tips
Rotate the UCS with the Number Pad
Steve Schulz sends us a routine he made to help speed navigation inside the UCS. "I have set up my number pad as my UCS (user coordinate system) navigator. It is the best thing I have ever done for 3D drawings." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Create 3D Profiles along a Pathway
Civil technician R.T. Rinehart sends us a tip describing the Sweep command. "Sweep allows you to sweep a 2D object along a path and create a 3D solid from it. I use this command frequently when modeling underground pipes and utilities." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Intersect Solid Objects to Form Complex Objects
Tipster Greg Silva shares his method of using the Intersect command on two 3D objects to yield one complex 3D object. "To create a 3D object that has compound angles, it is sometimes easier to use two different solids and the Intersect operation." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Use Regions to Create 3D Solids
Bill Perez reminds us of how regions can help us in our 3D design work. "Region is a command that is underutilized by users who are creating solid models. With Region, you can quickly select the closed-loop 'sketch,' converting it to a dimensionless flat solid shape that you can extrude, intersect, or revolve into a more complex shape." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
And More Tips!
Following are this week's reminders, tidbits, and miscellaneous updates from the Cadalyst Tip Patrol.
2D Block Creation: Use Flatshot to quickly create a 2D block on the plan view compiled from the image of your 3D model that's currently on screen.
- Submit only code and other tips that are your original work (or provide the original source so we can include proper credit).
- Tell us which software version you use.
