CAD Industry Is Experiencing Gradual Recovery, Says JPR Report
Research and consulting firm Jon Peddie Research (JPR) has released the "2010 JPR CAD Report" ($5,000+), which includes information on worldwide CAD software revenues, market share, and the user base, as well as forecasts for the major CAD segments. JPR predicts that the CAD market will increase 5% to $5.4 billion in 2010, and will fully recover by 2013/2014.
MAXON Provides CINEMA 4D Tutorials
MAXON Computer, developer of the 3D modeling, painting, animation, and rendering solution CINEMA 4D, is including a new tutorial series in the free CINEMA 4D documentation package. The series takes users through entire project phases, covering modeling, animation, materials, lighting, and more. The new tutorials can be downloaded via the Online Updater or from the MAXON web site.
CIMdata Releases Dassault Systèmes V6 IP Lifecycle Management Report
Product lifecycle management (PLM) consulting and research firm CIMdata has released a free report entitled, "Dassault Systèmes V6 IP Lifecycle Management." ArchVision Offers Free RPC for Autodesk 3ds Max 2011 Users
ArchVision, a developer of image-based content creation solutions, has released a free RPC (rich photorealistic content) library for 3ds Max 2011 users, including samplings from RPC People, Trees, and Cars. To access the free content, users must install ArchVision DASHBOARD and create a free VisMasters account. New RPC users will also receive a 14-day trial of ArchVision's RPC All Access content subscription plan.
Bricsys Releases Beta of Bricscad V10 for LINUX
Bricsys, the developer of the Bricscad CAD platform, has released the beta version of Bricscad V10 for Red Hat and Ubuntu LINUX. Users can download the software for test purposes without charge; the first commercial version will be released at the end of June, 2010.

ZWSOFT Announces Results of ZWCAD Design Contest 2010
ZWCAD Software, a supplier of CAD software, has announced the winners of its ZWCAD Design Contest 2010. The international contest challenged architects, engineers, designers, and drafters to use ZWCAD 2010 to design something they might expect to see in the year 2015. Rajendran, a student from India, took first place with his 3D solid model house.
Dimension 3D Recognizes Winners of Extreme Redesign Printing Contest
Dimension 3D Printing, a brand of Stratasys, has announced the winners of Extreme Redesign: The Ultimate 3D Printing Challenge, a global design-and-3D-printing contest and scholarship for high school and college students. Winners of the sixth annual challenge include:
- High School Category: Maxwell Krist of Eckstein Middle School, Washington, for his solar-powered electricity-usage monitoring device.
- University Category: Dale Herzog of Quinsigamond Community College, Massachusetts, for his 3D assembly to aid in the development of prosthetic systems for the human hand.
- Art and Architecture Category: Trevor Clarke of Fullerton College, California, for his human-like, articulated character for use in stop-motion film.
- Green Bonus: Benjamin McCombs and Jonathan Hoekstra of Caledonia High School, Michigan, for a wind turbine system design that captures wind energy from moving vehicles.
KLH Engineers Receives Autodesk BIM Experience Award
Kohrs Lonnemann Heil Engineers has earned an Autodesk BIM Experience Award for its early adoption and application of building information modeling (BIM) for more than 35 new construction and renovation projects. The award recognizes the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering firm for its use of Autodesk BIM products including Revit MEP and Autodesk 3ds Max Design, along with the Autodesk Green Building Studio web service.
Bentley Names Design Competition Winners, Educator of the Year
Bentley Systems has named professor Efrat Gilboa of the Shenkar College of Engineering and Design as Bentley Educator of the Year. The award recognizes a member of the academic community who has an outstanding record of achievement and is committed to inspiring students to pursue careers in the infrastructure professions. Bentley has also announced the winners of the 2010 Bentley Student Design Competition, which recognizes technically advanced projects created by university, high school, and middle school students using Bentley software, as well as the achievements of their educators and mentors. The winners of this year's competition include:
- Kiamsha Barnes, Sarah Cieslak, and Karyn Warthen, Eastern Technical High School, Baltimore, in the Design a Medical Facility of the Future category;
- Matteo Soru, University of Cagliari, Cagliari, Italy, in the Architectural Design category;
- Pauline Barkin and Katheryn Czub, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, N.Y., in the Computational Design category.

SolidProfessor Releases DriveWorksXpress Course
A SolidWorks DriveWorksXpress Course ($99.99) is now available from instructional products provider SolidProfessor. This course teaches users how to automate the design of a part with DriveWorksXpress, including setting up design rules that control parameters of the model, and generating SolidWorks Part and Drawing files automatically.
