Tips & Tools Weekly (Vol. 15, No. 6)

This Week's Software Tips

Create Custom Linetypes
Hardik Dhingani outlines two ways to create a linetype in AutoCAD: in a text editor (such as Notepad) or directly in the ACAD.LIN file from the Command prompt. "Now, draw a line of any length, and you will see the linetype you expected!" View the complete tip and post your feedback.

3D Text — An Update
CAD Administrator Aaron Werning has updated his routine, 3D Text (tip #2081), which was published in January 2006. Creating 3D text can be difficult — but not with this routine, which now works with later versions of AutoCAD. The header information in the LISP file describes the exact changes that were made.

Winter Weather, LISP Style
Vaidas Guogis submitted LISP Snow, a fun tip from the kitoX web site that makes a drawing look more like a snow globe. You can see the tip in action in this video.

Land Desktop Tip: Pipes in Profile
Engineering Designer Marta J. Quinlan gives us a tip on drawing pipes in profile view in AutoCAD Land Desktop. "The Profile Menu/FG Centerline Tangents command asks for a station or a point, plus the elevation, and will connect the stations together with a line. I then change these lines to the proper layer, offset them to indicate the pipe size, and I have my pipe system." View the complete tip and post your feedback.

Submit Your Tip

Review Cadalyst's Tip Submission Guidelines, then Submit Your Tip for your favorite CAD software. If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use to purchase a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store.
