This Week's Software Tips

Do You Have a Secret to Share?
Do you have any tips for using AutoCAD — or any other CAD software tool — more effectively and efficiently? Send them to us! If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use to purchase a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store. Use the "Submit Tip" button below to send us your tip today!

Document and Hyperlink Changes
Frequent tipster Danny Korem sends an AutoCAD tip about hyperlinking your DWG files to other files where you can document changes to a drawing. "This could be the best way to keep track of changes and modifications in your project's sheets. ... It takes just seconds, and it's worth minutes to hours of work." View the complete tip and post your feedback.

Macro: Zoom, Audit, Purge, and Save
Ren Smith, a CNC programmer and CAD detailer, sends us a custom-made macro for AutoCAD and its verticals. "This macro is a tool button command to zoom extents, audit, purge, and save a drawing." View the complete tip and post your feedback.

Choose Two Points and Extrude to Length
Ren Smith also created this brief LISP routine, which helps determine the distance an object needs to be extruded in AutoCAD. "A coworker asked if I could make a command to extrude an object to a distance by picking two points in the drawing." View the complete tip and post your feedback.

Insert Text into Multileaders
Engineering Technician and CAD Manager Michael Miklaszewicz came up with a tip for importing a Microsoft Word document into a multileader in AutoCAD. "A Word document, or part of a document, can be inserted into AutoCAD with a multileader." View the complete tip and post your feedback.

Submit Your Tip

Review Cadalyst's Tip Submission Guidelines, then Submit Your Tip for your favorite CAD software. If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use to purchase a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store. Please remember to submit only code and other tips that are your original work (or provide the original source so we can include proper credit) and to tell us which software version you use.

By submitting code, you grant Cadalyst the right to print and distribute your code in print, digitally, and by other means. Cadalyst and individual authors retain all rights to the code; published code is not to be used for commercial purposes.
