Customize Tool Palette Commands

Océ Whitepaper Offers Tips for Wide-Format PDF Printing
Océ, a provider of digital document management technology and services, has published a whitepaper titled "How to Avoid Wide-Format PDF Printing Problems" to help users understand the PDF Preflight tool, which can address common PDF printing problems such as missing fonts or images. Registered users can download the paper from the Océ web site.
Independent Study Evaluates Mechanical Properties of FDM Parts
Stratasys, a maker of additive manufacturing machines, has announced findings from an independent study characterizing the effects of time, temperature, and environment on the mechanical properties of polycarbonate and ABS plastic parts made via fused deposition modeling (FDM). The university study provides data for manufacturers considering additive manufacturing for production parts or functional prototypes.
Roland Publishes Whitepaper on Rapid Prototyping Trends
"Introduction to Subtractive Rapid Prototyping," a whitepaper from Roland DGA, presents strategies and technologies that advance product design and manufacturing processes. The paper states that rising outsourcing costs and a growing field of individual entrepreneurs and small businesses are fueling the demand for in-house design and manufacturing tools.

Lightmap Takes 25% Off Software for Lighting 3D Scenes
Lightmap has announced that through October 2011, HDR Light Studio 2.0 Standard and Pro will be available with a 25% discount, making them £299 and £449 ($474 and $712) respectively. HDR Light Studio is an interactive tool for designing image-based lighting environments for 3D models. The newly released HDR Light Studio Live plug-in for Luxion KeyShot is included with the Pro edition.
Graitec Provides Two-Week Trial of Structural Analysis Software
Software developer Graitec is offering a free 14-day trial of SuperSUITE (the trial is limited to jobs of 100 or fewer members). SuperSUITE comprises Graitec's modeling and structural analysis software. The company recently upgraded the suite with the release of SuperSTRESS 8.0, which features a cross-section module that calculates section properties.
Pro Version of TurboViewer Mobile CAD Viewer Available at 50% Off
For a limited time, IMSI/Design is offering an introductory price of $9.99 for TurboViewer Pro for iPad and iPhone. A more powerful version of the free app that IMSI/Design released this summer, TurboViewer Pro features visual styles that support hidden line, x-ray, shaded, and other options; layer management; and support for 14 languages.
Excel-Lent Gear Optimization Software Offered at Introductory Price
Machine tool design firm Excel Gear is offering an introductory price of $995 for its Excel-Lent gear/gearbox software, which can be used for machine tools, heavy materials handling equipment, or wind turbines. Excel-Lent contains three sections — design, analysis, and gear dimensions — any of which can be used individually to run calculations.
ClearEdge3D Offers Free Trial of Pipe Geometry Program
A trial version of EdgeWise Plant 2.0 is available to users who register with automated feature extraction technology company ClearEdge3D. The newly updated software automates the extraction of CAD pipe geometry from 3D laser-scanned data for creating as-built 3D industrial plant models. The trial version can process only 25 scans and cannot save or export models.
GRAPHISOFT Launches Model-Viewer App Linked to Social Site
BIMx for the iPad and iPhone will be available as a free app from Apple's App Store, and will be launched together with GRAPHISOFT's online BIMx community on September 20. A promotion running September 20–October 31, 2011, allows all ArchiCAD 15 users to create BIMx models and share them with their clients, either directly or through the Facebook BIMx site, for a six-week period.
SprutCAM America Offers Free 30-Day CAM Demo
Visitors to the SprutCAM America web site can register to download a 30-day full demo version of SprutCAM 7 Pro. SPRUT Technology recently released version 7.1.5 of the multi-axis CAM (computer-aided manufacturing) system, which includes the addition of two Turbo Simulation modes that approximate complex workpieces as voxel solids.

Artists and visualization specialists can submit a scene or design created with 3ds Max or 3ds Max Design 2012; the winning image will be featured on Autodesk's 3ds Max Design software box and splash screen, and winning designers will receive hardware and cash prizes.
