Should Old Acquaintance Be Forgot, and Never Brought to Mind?
Some tips just never get old. Is there a classic tip that you still rely on today? Use the "Submit Tip" button below to tell us about your favorites from the past, so we can dust them off and share them with your fellow CAD users!
Advanced Grip-Editing Techniques
Mike Klever shares some advanced AutoCAD grip-editing techniques. "While experimenting with Cadalyst CAD Tip No. 3749, I found that it doesn't work in my version of AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011, but I stumbled on another use for the Ctrl key when modifying with grips." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Create Complex Closed Polylines
Frequent tipster Danny Korem shares a procedure that will help in the creation of complex closed polylines in AutoCAD. "Turning lines and arcs into polylines can be sometimes a tedious job. This especially applies to outer contours. The following steps will make it easier to create one." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Locate Linetype Files Quickly
Senior Engineering Designer Perry Medina describes a quick way to access various linetype files if you keep them in folders other than AutoCAD's default location. "The trick is to place a shortcut to your folders or files in the place that AutoCAD looks first. This can save you several clicks when you browse to find them." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Filter via Layer Names
Senior GIS Draughtsman Nick Antonov talks to us about AutoCAD layer filters. "When I am working on a complex drawing with few xrefs attached and lots of layers, I'd like to manipulate the object properties by layer (color, linetype, etc.). However, when there are a lot of layers and the prefix of the xref is added to the layer name in the Layer Manager, it's not easy to choose layers by name similarities (for instance, all layers that have Road or Civil in the name). View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Review Cadalyst's Tip Submission Guidelines, then Submit Your Tip for your favorite CAD software. If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use to purchase a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store. Please remember to submit only code and other tips that are your original work (or provide the original source so we can include proper credit) and to tell us which software version you use.
By submitting code, you grant Cadalyst the right to print and distribute your code in print, digitally, and by other means. Cadalyst and individual authors retain all rights to the code; published code is not to be used for commercial purposes.
