This Week's Software Tips
What's Your Secret?
Do you have any tips for using AutoCAD — or any other CAD software tool — more effectively and efficiently? Send them to us! If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use to purchase a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store. Use the "Submit Tip" button below to send us your tip today!
Add Text below the Dimension Line
J. Raul Cardenas describes how to make AutoCAD dimensions display additional text below the dimension line. "When you want an accurate dimension, but also want specific text to appear below the dimension line, select the desired dimension and open the Text Override option in the Properties palette." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Convert Architectural Units to Decimal Units
Michael Gallina Jr. — a CAD manager, senior CAD tech, and render specialist — shares an AutoCAD tip on how to deal with drawings that are in different units. "I use decimal units as a standard. When I get an architectural-units plan to insert into a civil drawing, I convert the units using one of these two methods." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Display Linetypes Correctly at Any Scale
Frequent tipster Danny Korem explains the AutoCAD settings that can help you display your linetypes properly, regardless of scale. "Do you want your layouts with viewports to look good, no matter what the scale is? Sometimes it's confusing to output your linework in several scales side-by-side — and it might become frustrating. In addition, while you are doing this, the clock is ticking." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Double-Click to Zoom
Kevin Bradberry shares a tip about using the middle mouse button (the scroll wheel) in AutoCAD. "Double-click the middle mouse button to perform a Zoom Extents. I don't think I've seen others using this, so I thought it might not be well known." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Review Cadalyst's Tip Submission Guidelines, then Submit Your Tip for your favorite CAD software. If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use to purchase a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store.
