This Week's Software Tips
What's Your Secret?
Do you have any tips for using AutoCAD — or any other CAD software tool — more effectively and efficiently? Send them to us! If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use to purchase a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store. Use the "Submit Tip" button below to send us your tip today!
Three CUI Tricks
Frequent tipster Danny Korem shows us some simple tricks to modify the user interface in AutoCAD using the Customize User Interface Editor (CUI). "Many users are looking for ways to make working with AutoCAD easier. As time passes, we get selective about how to use our memory (or lack thereof), so the CUI is something we AutoCAD users should adopt." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Share Files with ETransmit
For his second tip this week, Danny Korem discusses how to send DWG files via the eTransmit tool in AutoCAD. "In many cases, people from outside the office will attach AutoCAD files to an e-mail message. Unlike other file formats, much of the data within a DWG can be lost during this kind of transmission." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Synchronize Views with Layer State Manager, Including Sheet Set Manager
Architect Ronald L. Lohan explains how his company uses saved views to increase efficiency while using AutoCAD Architecture. "In AutoCAD Architecture 2012, our team uses preset views to synchronize numerous layer states and accomplish our tasks more quickly." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
AutoCAD WS: Easily Update Basemaps with Review Comments from the Field
Russell Koenig shares how his company uses the Autodesk AutoCAD WS mobile app for field work. "The AutoCAD WS app for mobile devices is a great way to view and mark up a drawing when you're outside the office. We use it on an iPad to make field review comments on survey basemaps." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
