This Week's Software Tips
Longer Days Mean More Time to Share Tips
The beach, fireworks, picnics ... when you're making a list of your summertime favorites, don't forget the tips! Take a few minutes to share your tips — for AutoCAD or any other CAD software tool — with your fellow CAD users. If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use toward a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store. Use the "Submit Tip" button below to send us your tip today!
Place Insulation Using a Dynamic Block
Steve Lander shares his modified insulation block that is a dynamic block for AutoCAD. "This dynamic insulation block is made with a vertical height of 1 mm, so it can be scaled to your required height. I favor placing insulation using this method, instead of the Batting linetype, because it is completely independent of linetype scales." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Create New Blocks from Old Blocks
Tipster Maria Tzanetakou sends us a tip about how to use existing blocks in AutoCAD to create new blocks. "Let's say that you have a specific dynamic block called A, in which you have placed a look-up table. If you would like to use this block as a base and create block B, the easiest way to do so is to save it in your disk and rename the block before opening it." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Designer and CAD coordinator Robert L. Zipprich shares a tip on setting the MIRRTEXT system variable in AutoCAD. "Do you know anyone who likes to read backwards text?" View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Review Cadalyst's Tip Submission Guidelines, then Submit Your Tip for your favorite CAD software. If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use to purchase a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store. Please remember to submit only code and other tips that are your original work (or provide the original source so we can include proper credit) and to tell us which software version you use.
By submitting code, you grant Cadalyst the right to print and distribute your code in print, digitally, and by other means. Cadalyst and individual authors retain all rights to the code; published code is not to be used for commercial purposes.
