This Week's Software Tips
They're Not Antiques, They're Classics!
Some tips just never get old. Is there a classic tip that you still rely on today? Use the "Submit Tip" button below to tell us about your favorites from the past, so we can dust them off and share them with your fellow CAD users!
Expand or Collapse All Subsets in a Sheet Set
Tawfik Shehata shares a trick that lets users expand or collapse all of the subsets in an AutoCAD sheet set. "This tip is for everyone who's developed a repetitive strain injury from expanding and collapsing subsets and their nested sub-subsets (and sub-sub-subsets) one at a time in a sheet set containing tens of them." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Cross-Reference the Easy Way
Frequent tipster Danny Korem shares some tips for ensuring your AutoCAD files reference properly. "Many times I get calls from CAD users who have difficulties while attaching files as xrefs. I have an automatic answer: 'Is the file to be attached in WCS (World Coordinate System)? Are the units set correctly?'" View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Macro to Add Right-Click for Iso Views
Steven Matchett demonstrates a custom macro he has applied to his mouse buttons that enable him to change views very quickly in AutoCAD. "The mouse provides further opportunites for AutoCAD customizations," said Cadalyst Tip Reviewer Brian Benton. "Get a five-button (or more) mouse and use the CUI tools to program those extra buttons and make life easier for yourself." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Publish All Sheets
Rob Peterson, a senior CAD technician, shares a simple but time-saving macro that will let you control how AutoCAD loads files into the publisher before the publisher opens. "There are times when I want to publish sheets that are located in multiple open drawings, and there are times when I want to publish sheets only from the current drawing." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Review Cadalyst's Tip Submission Guidelines, then Submit Your Tip for your favorite CAD software. If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use to purchase a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store. Please remember to submit only code and other tips that are your original work (or provide the original source so we can include proper credit) and to tell us which software version you use.
By submitting code, you grant Cadalyst the right to print and distribute your code in print, digitally, and by other means. Cadalyst and individual authors retain all rights to the code; published code is not to be used for commercial purposes.
