This Week's Software Tips
They're Not Antiques, They're Classics!
Some tips just never get old. Is there a classic tip that you still rely on today? Use the "Submit Tip" button below to tell us about your favorites from the past, so we can dust them off and share them with your fellow CAD users!
Slice Easily between Two Intersecting Solids
Tipster Steven Matchett shares a trick for slicing between two solids in AutoCAD. "I tend to use an angular dimension for slicing between two intersecting solids. I find it really easy because you don't need to add any construction lines." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Manage Title Block Information through Drawing Properties
Frequent tipster Danny Korem shares a trick for using attributes and drawing properties to populate your title block information in AutoCAD. "This tip is a very interesting way to fill out your drawings' title block information," said Cadalyst Tip Reviewer Brian Benton. "In fact, it's cool." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Turn Lines into Polylines by Joining
Mechanical engineer Perry Pattiz shares a tip on joining lines and polylines in AutoCAD. "A few years ago AutoCAD introduced the Join command, which allows you to select several back-to-back lines in a straight row to combine them into a single line. Quite by accident, I found out that the Join command has been improved in release 2012 to work with lines that are not co-linear." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Snap to Printable Area Edges
Tawfik Shehatan shares a trick that will allow you to snap to the printable edges of an AutoCAD paper space page. "Have you ever been in the situation in which your drawing extents are too close to the layout printable area edges, but when you print it, you find some minor cropping — or you are trying to draw a frame at equal margins from the paper borders, but when you publish it, they don't look equal?" View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Review Cadalyst's Tip Submission Guidelines, then Submit Your Tip for your favorite CAD software. If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use to purchase a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store.
