This Week's Software Tips

Hot Tip Harry Is Looking for LISP
Hot Tip Harry is always keeping an eye out for the best CAD code! Use the "Submit Tip" button below to send us your AutoLISP routines. If we publish your tip, you'll earn a $25 gift card you can use to purchase a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store.

Set Your Viewport View Angle
Lynn McCann shares a simple and easy tip to set the angle of your view in an AutoCAD viewport. "DView is an older AutoCAD command, but it has many aspects to it," said Cadalyst Tip Reviewer Brian Benton. "This tip describes its ability to rotate the view of your viewport. It's nice because it is very straightforward and simple to do." View the complete tip and post your feedback.

Copy Annotation Settings from One Drawing to Another
Lynette Blum, a CAFM (computer-aided facility management) specialist, shares a tip to easily transfer Facility Management (an add-on to AutoCAD) annotation settings from one AutoCAD file to another. "FM:Systems is a third-party extension for AutoCAD that assists in facility management documentation," noted Cadalyst Tip Reviewer Brian Benton. "This tip will also work for almost any styles that can be set in AutoCAD." View the complete tip and post your feedback.

Eliminate Excess Drawing Scales
Frequent tipster Danny Korem shares a tip about cleaning up the Annotated Scales list in your AutoCAD files. "There are times when you wish there were no drawing scales, right? Here is the workaround to keep the scale list short and in line with your needs." View the complete tip and post your feedback.

Modify Layer States
Tipster Mike Noroña has shared a tip with us on how to modify an existing layer state in AutoCAD. "When dealing with layer states, I often need to modify existing ones. This usually occurs when it's active and I want to add layers to the state, delete them from the state, or modify the settings of one or more layers. Since I use long, descriptive names, this saves typing time." View the complete tip and post your feedback.

Submit Your Tip

Review Cadalyst's Tip Submission Guidelines, then Submit Your Tip for your favorite CAD software. If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use to purchase a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store. Please remember to submit only code and other tips that are your original work (or provide the original source so we can include proper credit) and to tell us which software version you use.

By submitting code, you grant Cadalyst the right to print and distribute your code in print, digitally, and by other means. Cadalyst and individual authors retain all rights to the code; published code is not to be used for commercial purposes.
