This Week's Software Tips
Tips for the Holidays
Feeling generous this time of year? Why not take a few minutes to share your tips — for AutoCAD or any other CAD software tool — with your fellow CAD users. And when you give, you'll also receive: If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use toward a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store. Use the "Submit Tip" button below to send us your tip today!
Recreate INITDIA for AutoLISP
Veteran tipster Leonid Nemirovsky shares a tip about using the INITDIA variable in AutoCAD-based LISP routines. "INITDIA is an AutoLISP function that forces the display of the next command's dialog box," explained Cadalyst Tip Reviewer Brian Benton. View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Attach Multiple Xrefs
Tipster James J. Olszewski shares a trick that allows users to insert more than one xref file at a time in AutoCAD. "Hard to believe after all these years, but I only recently discovered that indeed you can attach more than one xref at a time." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Edit in the Maximized Viewport Environment, Part 2
Frequent tipster Danny Korem expands on a previous AutoCAD tip he submitted, "Edit in the Maximized Viewport Environment." "I know of many users who prefer to work this way," commented Cadalyst Tip Reviewer Brian Benton. "They are more comfortable, and they do not fear accidental zooms or pans." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Add PDFs to Your Sheet Set
Cadalyst Tip Reviewer Brian Benton shares a tip on how to get PDF files to show up in your AutoCAD sheet set. "AutoCAD has sheet sets, which help you organize your drawing set files and provide a managing tool for those files. Because it's AutoCAD-based, it can handle only AutoCAD (DWG) files. Sometimes, though, I get third-party drawings for my set in the form of PDFs, not DWGs. That's a problem when I want to print the entire set of drawings." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Review Cadalyst's Tip Submission Guidelines, then Submit Your Tip for your favorite CAD software. If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use to purchase a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store. Please remember to submit only code and other tips that are your original work (or provide the original source so we can include proper credit) and to tell us which software version you use.
By submitting code, you grant Cadalyst the right to print and distribute your code in print, digitally, and by other means. Cadalyst and individual authors retain all rights to the code; published code is not to be used for commercial purposes.
