Tips & Tools Weekly (Vol. 17, No. 7)
5 Mar, 2012 By: Cadalyst StaffThis Week's Software Tips
Do You Speak LISP?
When it comes to CAD code, Hot Tip Harry knows a good tip when he sees it! Use the "Submit Tip" button below to send us your LISP routines. If we publish your tip, you'll earn a $25 gift card you can use to purchase a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store.
Display Changing Values Automatically with Fields
Frequent tipster Danny Korem shares some ideas for using fields in AutoCAD. "In many cases, you can right-click and opt for Insert Field instead of typing. Fields can display values from an object's properties (for instance, a polyline's area, a circle's radius, and so forth) in your mtext, attribute value, or table cell, and will do so even if the value changes when the file is refreshed (by Save, Regen, Plot, etc.)." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Copy a Linear Array
Tipster Hayden Clarke explains a new feature that was added to the Copy command in AutoCAD 2012. "I have stumbled across a great new feature added to the classic CO copy command." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
What's in That File?
Previously, Danny Korem sent us a tip about working with other people's AutoCAD files (CAD Tip No. 3820). This time around, our tipster expands on that idea by demonstrating a way to learn the contents of the new file. View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Inventor Tip: Toggle Dimension Visibility
Tipster David Edward Gaskill shares some tips on working with busy Inventor files that have multiple sketches with a lot of dimensions. "First, turn off all dimensions on the sketches; this makes seeing the model much easier." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Review Cadalyst's Tip Submission Guidelines, then Submit Your Tip for your favorite CAD software. If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use to purchase a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store. Please remember to submit only code and other tips that are your original work (or provide the original source so we can include proper credit) and to tell us which software version you use.
By submitting code, you grant Cadalyst the right to print and distribute your code in print, digitally, and by other means. Cadalyst and individual authors retain all rights to the code; published code is not to be used for commercial purposes.
