This Week's Software Tips
Do You Speak LISP?
When it comes to CAD code, Hot Tip Harry knows a good tip when he sees it! Use the "Submit Tip" button below to send us your LISP routines. If we publish your tip, you'll earn a $25 gift card you can use to purchase a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store.
Interact with the UCS Icon
Engineering technician Hayden Clarke discusses the new features added to AutoCAD's UCS (User Coordinate System) icon. "The UCS icon in model space is usually just an indication of which view we are looking at. In AutoCAD 2012, however, the UCS icon is an interactive object that can be selected and manipulated without going to the ribbon or commands." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Mask Hatch Pattern Backgrounds
Civil designer Sam Lucido talks to us about using the Background feature in AutoCAD hatch objects. "Did you know that you can mask the background of a hatch pattern? This can help when two areas are similar, but have one small difference that you need to graphically display." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Manage Files with Cloud Tools
Frequent tipster Danny Korem explains how he uses Autodesk Cloud and the company's mobile and browser-based CAD program, AutoCAD WS, to manage his file history. "AutoCAD WS is a great tool — especially since it is free," said tip reviewer Brian Benton. View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Stop Exploding Blocks
Danny Korem also gives us a tip about managing blocks and other AutoCAD objects without exploding them. "For a few years now, I haven't been exploding blocks and polylines — there's really no need to. I make all my blocks non-explodeable when I create them." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Review Cadalyst's Tip Submission Guidelines, then Submit Your Tip for your favorite CAD software. If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use to purchase a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store. Please remember to submit only code and other tips that are your original work (or provide the original source so we can include proper credit) and to tell us which software version you use.
By submitting code, you grant Cadalyst the right to print and distribute your code in print, digitally, and by other means. Cadalyst and individual authors retain all rights to the code; published code is not to be used for commercial purposes.
