This Week's Software Tips

Start the New Year with New Tips
Make a resolution to share your tips — for AutoCAD or any other CAD software tool — with your fellow CAD users. If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use toward a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store. Use the "Submit Tip" button below to send us your tip today!

Quickly Create an Anonymous Block in AutoCAD
Tip guru Leonid Nemirovsky gives us a quick way to create blocks in AutoCAD out of selected linework. "This is a very useful trick," said Cadalyst Tip Reviewer Brian Benton. "Making a block can be cumbersome at times. But if all of the linework is there, it is very easy to do." View the complete tip and post your feedback.

Don't Overlook the Settings
Tipster Maria Tzanetakou reminds us that many AutoCAD commands have more options available to us after we start the command. "Old-fashioned leaders are still useful, and full of options. We sometimes forget the settings options for many commands, both new and old." View the complete tip and post your feedback.

Attach Drawings with Sheet Sets
Frequent tipster Danny Korem shared a way to create drawings using sheet sets and saved views in AutoCAD. "Sheet sets are very powerful," noted Cadalyst Tip Reviewer Brian Benton. "They are more than just a way to print out your set." View the complete tip and post your feedback.

Synchronize Working Folders Automatically
In his second tip of the week, Danny Korem explains how to keep users' files current if they have to work offline from the company network. "This is really a Windows tip and not a CAD tip, but it is one many CAD users can take advantage of," said Cadalyst Tip Reviewer Brian Benton. View the complete tip and post your feedback.

Submit Your Tip

Review Cadalyst's Tip Submission Guidelines, then Submit Your Tip for your favorite CAD software. If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use to purchase a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store. Please remember to submit only code and other tips that are your original work (or provide the original source so we can include proper credit) and to tell us which software version you use.

By submitting code, you grant Cadalyst the right to print and distribute your code in print, digitally, and by other means. Cadalyst and individual authors retain all rights to the code; published code is not to be used for commercial purposes.
