This Week's Software Tips

Last Chance to Earn Bonus Prize Money for Published CAD Tips!
Have you been thinking about submitting an AutoCAD tip or "Hot Tip Harry" code? Well, there's no time like the present! With our current contest, tips accepted for publication will earn bonus money to spend in the Cadalyst Store: $25 for newsletter tips and $40 for "Hot Tip Harry." Use the "Submit Tip" button below to send your tip today! (Contest expires after ten bonus payments or on April 30, 2013, whichever comes first. Limit one bonus payment per author.)

Create a Fillet with a Radius
Jack Nardi shared this technique to create a radius between parallel lines in AutoCAD. "I often need to generate 2D linkages, and I prefer a radius at each end." View the complete tip and post your feedback.

Use Setbylayer for Block Creation
Kevin E. Vaughn shared a tip for setting AutoCAD objects — especially blocks — to Bylayer. "It is good practice to have all of your objects set to Bylayer," commented Cadalyst tip reviewer Brian Benton. "If you don't, you lose the ability to manage the display settings of your objects in a viewport." View the complete tip and post your feedback.

Match Linetypes by Setting MSLTscale to Zero
Kevin E. Vaughn sent another AutoCAD tip for getting your linetypes to scale the way you want them in model space and paper space. "Your object data is not altered; it is purely a visual display preference," explained Cadalyst tip reviewer Brian Benton. View the complete tip and post your feedback.

Submit Your Tip

Review Cadalyst's Tip Submission Guidelines, then Submit Your Tip for your favorite CAD software. Be sure to tell us which software version you use. If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use to purchase a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store. Please submit only tips or code that are your original work. By submitting code, you grant Cadalyst the right to print and distribute your tip in print, digitally, and by other means. Cadalyst and individual authors retain all rights to submitted tips.

By submitting code, you agree that your code can be reused as-is or modified by other users in conjunction with AutoCAD or other software programs to gain efficiencies in that software for professional or personal use, and that your code can be shared freely among users. Users do not have the right to republish code in any manner or format (such as on a blog web site or in a printed document) for personal or commercial gain without written permission from Cadalyst and the original author.
