This Week's Software Tips
Take Time for Tips
Do you know a better way to work — in AutoCAD or any other CAD software tool? Why not take a few minutes to share your tips with your fellow CAD users? When you give, you'll also receive: If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use toward a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store. Use the "Submit Tip" button below to send us your tip today!
Copy and Paste to Original Coordinates
Senior CAD designer Sam J. Lucido shares a tip and LISP routine that can assist AutoCAD users when trying to get linework from one file to another based on a set of coordinates. "A great way to move objects between maps and keep the same location is the PasteOrig command." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Establish a Base Point for Insertion
Vimal Dhruv explains the importance of setting the base point of your files in AutoCAD. "Often, the drawing which you are inserting is not inserted where you expect it to be; it may appear anywhere in the current drawing. Then you have to move that inserted drawing to place it at the proper location." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Move Objects between Model Space and Paper Space
Mark H. McLeod, a project engineer, shares several ways to use the Change Space command in AutoCAD and its verticals. "It can be extremely useful to ensure that text remains at a consistent size when you have multiple viewports of different scales on a layout." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Civil 3D Tip: Adjust the Level of Detail in AutoCAD Civil 3D
Tipster Rory Rudden shares a Civil 3D tip that can help you reduce the strain on your workstation. "Large drawings in AutoCAD Civil 3D can tax the resources on your PC and slow it down. One way of easing this is to use the Level of Detail command, which reduces the level of detail displayed as you zoom out." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Review Cadalyst's Tip Submission Guidelines, then Submit Your Tip for your favorite CAD software. Be sure to tell us which software version you use. If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use to purchase a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store. Please submit only tips or code that are your original work. By submitting code, you grant Cadalyst the right to print and distribute your tip in print, digitally, and by other means. Cadalyst and individual authors retain all rights to submitted tips.
By submitting code, you agree that your code can be reused as-is or modified by other users in conjunction with AutoCAD or other software programs to gain efficiencies in that software for professional or personal use, and that your code can be shared freely among users. Users do not have the right to republish code in any manner or format (such as on a blog web site or in a printed document) for personal or commercial gain without written permission from Cadalyst and the original author.
