Cadalyst congratulates tipster Phil Clark, who won the Cadalyst CAD Tips prize drawing for the fourth quarter of 2013. You can start qualifying for the next drawing now; authors of published tips will be entered in the drawing for a $150 Amazon gift card. Submit your CAD tips now!
Trim All Lines on One Side
Tipster Levi Connolly explains how to trim all lines on one side of a cutting edge in AutoCAD. "The old Command line–only ExTrim is a very useful and often forgotten command." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Which Variable Controls Xref Layer Properties?
Phil Clark explains what the AutoCAD variable VisRetain can do for you. "A lot of AutoCAD support inquiries begin with 'What's that system variable?' Users have a specific option in mind and recall that it is controlled by a system variable, but can't remember which one. In terms of frequency, the all-time winner has to be, 'What's that system variable that controls my xref layer properties?' View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Inventor Tip: Convert Files from Inventor to AutoCAD
CAD designer David Edward Gaskill shares a trick for converting Inventor files to AutoCAD files. "I have had issues with the conversion from Inventor to AutoCAD; it converts some of the views but not all the views." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Inventor Tip: Predict Constraints in Inventor
David Edward Gaskill's second tip of the week shows how to use the Predict Offset and Orientation setting in Inventor to add constraints after your parts have been created. "Have you ever had components in an assembly placed at the correct location without constraints, and wanted to add a constraint and not have the part move?" View the complete tip and post your feedback.
