3Dconnexion Mice Now Supported by Graphisoft ArchiCAD 11

29 Oct, 2007

Move brings 3D spatial devices to AEC market for first time, company reports.

3Dconnexion, a Logitech company, announced yesterday that its line of 3D mice is now supported by the new Graphisoft ArchiCAD 11 3D architectural design software. The AEC community can now use any of 3Dconnexion's 3D mice -- the SpaceNavigator, SpaceTraveler, SpacePilot, or SpaceExplorer -- with ArchiCAD 11 for better coordination and control of 3D objects when creating designs and managing the information lifecycle of buildings within an ArchiCAD 3D Virtual Building model.

3Dconnexion 3D mice allow movement and control within the 3D workspace of ArchiCAD 11. By simply moving the controller cap, a 3D CAD designer can simultaneously pan, zoom, and rotate without stopping to select commands, the company reports. An increase in pressure accelerates motion while a decrease in pressure slows motion for precise micro-adjustments.

"The Virtual Building has always been fundamental to our clients' practices," said Miklos Szovenyi-Lux, director of product management at Graphisoft. "Now, the 3Dconnexion SpaceNavigator makes it even easier to maneuver the Virtual Building in 3D -- you can almost touch it."

"We are very excited to be entering the AEC market with support by Graphisoft, a leader in model-based software for the building industry," said Ziva Nissan, 3Dconnexion director of product marketing. "This is a great leap in efficiency and productivity for architects as our 3D mice offer precise and effortless control of 3D models and scenes within ArchiCAD."

3Dconnexion products are supported by more than 100 3D applications, including Autodesk Maya, Autodesk 3ds Max, Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended, Maxon CINEMA 4D, form.Z, and all top-tier 3D CAD applications.

ArchiCAD 11 supports 3Dconnexion's entire product line on Windows XP and Windows Vista. The 3Dconnexion SpaceNavigator is also supported by ArchiCAD 11 on Macintosh OS X 10.4. SpaceNavigator Personal Edition ($59), SpaceNavigator Standard Edition ($99), SpaceTraveler ($199), SpaceExplorer ($299), and SpacePilot ($399) are available directly from the 3DConnexion Web site or from major online resellers including Amazon, CDW, Dell, and PC Mall.
