Autodesk Releases AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT 2017
21 Mar, 2016 By: Cadalyst StaffNew release includes PDF import tools and bundles AutoCAD 360 Pro mobile app with AutoCAD.
Autodesk announced the availability of AutoCAD 2017 yesterday. According to the company, the new release of the 2D/3D CAD software focuses on helping users to work across connected desktop and mobile solutions, collaborate with colleagues, create personalized design experiences, and stay up-to-date with features and updates.
The 2017 release includes the following features and capabilities:
Import PDFs: With this update, users no longer have to leave AutoCAD to import PDFs; instead, PDFs have been added to the supported file formats for import. With the Import tool, users can import geometry, TrueType text, and raster images from a particular page in a PDF file — or from all or part of an attached PDF underlay — into the current drawing as AutoCAD objects.
When importing from PDF, users can select a particular page of the selected PDF file; specify the scale, rotation, and insertion point of the imported geometry; control what type of data is imported from the PDF (geometry, solid fills, text, and raster objects); control how layers are assigned to imported objects; and set post-processing options for imported geometry.

Autodesk Desktop App: This companion application, which replaces Autodesk Application Manager, delivers product updates including security patches and updates for all 2015, 2016, and 2017 versions of Microsoft Windows–based Autodesk products. The application offers subscription-only updates and learning content for products under subscription.
When a hot fix, service pack, or security patch becomes available, the app displays a notification on the system tray. When a user launches the app and opens the Updates tab, an update “card” displays the relevant details about the update, including any available learning content related to the update.
The Autodesk Desktop App helps users manage and track product updates.
