Autodesk Inventor 2016 Home Page Offers Many Surprises29 Jun, 2015 By: John Hackney
IMAGINiT Tricks Tutorial: The new Inventor Home Page offers improved tools to increase productivity.
If your company project file is configured to point to your templates, you need an option to access them. If you notice the Expand to show advanced templates note in the lower right hand corner, you'll look for a way to click on it. It is not there. It is telling you to use your mouse to left click and drag the panel edge, either down or to the right, expanding it to reveal the Advanced icon.

Selecting Advanced expands your Inventor templates configured in your project file. The Basic icon is still available to select a standard template, if you need it. Keep in mind that the panel must be large enough to display the Advanced icon.
If, at any time, you need to re-size all the panels to their original size, there is a convenient Reset icon in the upper right corner of the Home Page.

Projects/Short Cut/File Details
The panel, in the upper right hand corner of the Home Page, consists of three tabs. The first tab is Projects, which lists all the configured Inventor project files. This list should be really small because your company should be using one project file. If you are using the Vault, this is usually a requirement.
Figure 5. Current project files appear with configuration details.
Your current project file appears with a check mark beside it and the essential configuration details are to the right. You cannot edit the project file from here, but you can navigate to the various locations using the hyperlinks. Note the check box in the lower right corner of this panel. If this is un-checked, you will hyperlink to the location through Inventor. If it is checked, you are taken to the location using Windows Explorer. This setting applies to all three of the panel tabs.
The Shortcuts tab can contain folders within your project that you can quickly navigate to and open a file. This is an ideal solution to users of project files with limited or no listings under Frequently Used Folders. If you remove the check box mentioned above, the Inventor Open dialog box opens. In the lower portion of this tab is the Links list where you can add any frequently used links, such as Internet sites or to a document on your workstation. Below, I have made a link to a specific file I wanted to refer back to. If I select the link, the file automatically opens. I also have a link to Google and McMaster-Carr that I use often in my design work.

The File Details tab lists all the main iProperties of a selected file from the Recent Documents panel. It will also give a thumbnail view of the file. This is very helpful if you keep your Recent Documents panel showing the file list instead of icons.
