BlueSky takes over Alventive product line

25 Apr, 2004

In January, BlueSky Solutions acquired Alventive, Inc., a developer of Web-based collaboration tools, and all existing customer contracts. The acquisition was the result of a closed bid auction conducted by Alventive in November 2003 to sell its intellectual property assets and trademark name.

BlueSky Solutions was formed in April 2003 by Chad Poole, a co-owner of C&C Solution, a company acquired by Alventive in 2000. BlueSky supported Alventive customers from June to December 2003 after Alventive announced it was ceasing operations. The last release of Alventive's product introduction management suite included Project Navigator, Quick Collaboration, PreSourcing Collaboration, and Design Process Collaboration.

Poole says, "There is a proven need for a solid web-based collaboration solution in the market. Alventive was one of the first companies to grasp this need and their solution offering reflects their understanding o this need."

Alventive began in 1990 as Visionary Design Systems, a developer of mechanical CAD software. VDS acquired 3D/Eye and its TriSpectives products in 1997, and incorporated that technology into IronCAD, released in 1998. In March 2001, Alventive spun off IronCAD into an independent company. Poole attributes Alventive's demise to financial and operational issues "fueled from pressures that come from being a venture capital funded business in a turbulent 'dot-com' technology business era."
