NEC has long produced outstanding monitors, and the Multi-Sync FP1370 is no exception. The FP1370 is actually a 22" monitor with a 20" viewable area, packed in a case that's only 19" x 19.7" x 18.6" (w x h x d) and weighs 71.4lb. Based on a very flat aperture-grille design, the FP1370 is capable of displays of up to 2048x1536 at 80Hz. Horizontal sync rate is 31130KHz, and vertical sync rate is 55160Hz. Dot pitch is a fairly fine 0.24mm. The warranty is a standard three years.
The monitor base offers BNC, mini D-sub connectors, and USB connectivity. Monitor bases are also available with audio or a combination of audio and USB. Software for controlling various aspects of the monitor bases, including USB, is provided with the MultiSync FP1370.
On the CADALYST test bench, the MultiSync FP1370 turned in excellent scores for brightness, contrast, focus, color purity, geometric distortion, and raster rotation. It fell back very slightly on the convergence score.
Lots of attention to detail, both in the features and the finish of the FP1370, bespeak NEC's long experience in monitor production. This is an attractive and well-engineered monitor with a very pleasing display. At $1,299 ESP, this is definitely a lot of monitor for the price.
On the front bezel of the monitor are eight buttons to control the excellent on-screen menu, in addition to the power switch (the MultiSync logo is illuminated and serves as the power indicator). It includes standard controls such as moiré reduction, tilt, rotate, and convergence along with controls that show the monitor status (and serial number), size and position of the on-screen menu, global sync, and a settings lock feature, among others. The MultiSync FP1370 also works very well with Macintosh systems and includes an adapter. R.L.
