New Tool Automatically Tunes Dell Workstations

Dell this week introduced a new tool that caught our eye: the Dell Precision Performance Optimizer (DPPO). The free software runs on Dell Precision desktop and mobile workstations to automatically optimize hardware performance for the software you're running.

For example, the company reports, if you are using SolidWorks, DPPO "will change the system to the optimal configuration without you having to make these changes yourself." The software directs the right amount of power and performance to your applications by adjusting system components such as processors, memory, graphics, storage, operating system, BIOS and software drivers. A System Maintenance module helps keep your workstation up to date by providing you with the latest drivers and firmware for all the hardware components you have.

DPPO also lets users monitor available memory, processor use, thermal sensor data, battery level, and other details.

DPPO is currently preconfigured for SolidWorks, PTC Creo, and Autodesk Maya. It comes preloaded on new Dell Precision desktop and mobile workstations and is downloadable at no additional cost for the following current-generation models:

  • Dell Precision T7600
  • Dell Precision T5600
  • Dell Precision T3600
  • Dell Precision T1650
  • Dell Precision M4700
  • Dell Precision M6700
