Cadalyst has unveiled the winner of a trip to Autodesk University 2006, the first of two grand prizes to be awarded in its Hot Tip Harry 2006 contest, sponsored by Autodesk. Charles Allred, one of many contributors to Cadalyst's Hot Tip Harry column this year, was awarded airfare, lodging and a week-long pass Autodesk University, to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, November 27- December 1.p>

As part of a year-long campaign to encourage CAD users to share AutoLISP and VBA code with their peers online at Cadalyst.com, authors of AutoCAD tips published in the Hot Tip Harry column in 2006 were automatically entered into two drawings, one for a trip to Autodesk University and the second for a copy of AutoCAD 2007 software. Cadalyst editors are also giving away official Cadalyst t-shirts to the authors of tips published this year and awarding $100 gift cards to Harry's pick of top tip each month.
Allred works for Wesko Detailers in Murray, Utah, on a staff of five steel detailers who prepare shop drawings for structural steel fabrication. "I don't have an official title," he explains, "but you could call me part CAD manager, part programmer or maybe just call 'Charles!' I do handle most software and all programming needs of our staff."
Cadalyst randomly selected Allred's LISP routine from all tips published in Hot Tip Harry to date for 2006. His tip, Dimensions Manipulations, automatically replaces, restores or removes dimension text. We interviewed Allred to find out more about his interest in and knowledge of AutoLISP and how he plans to spend his time at Autodesk University. Read more >>
