BIM Survey Asks, Which Solution is Best?
15 Oct, 2007Commissioned by Bentley and conducted by AECbytes, Top Criteria for BIM Solutions indicates an industry preference for Bentley BIM products over Autodesk Revit.
Quantitative analysis of a recent building information modeling (BIM) survey conducted by Lachmi Khemlani, founder and editor of AECbytes, found that 58% of building professionals prefer the approach and features of Bentley BIM solutions, compared with 38% preferring those of Autodesk Revit.
Commissioned by Bentley, the Top Criteria for BIM Solutions survey asked registered AECbytes subscribers to choose among 12 fundamental BIM approaches and 19 BIM features as identified by Khemlani. Bentley performed quantitative analysis of the survey results.
Of the 650 respondents to the survey, 46% identified themselves as architects, 14% as engineers or construction professionals, and the remainder as operations workers. The group was divided equally between single-office and multioffice firms.
"After analyzing the results, we believe that many who are considering BIM would benefit from using this survey to help them think through their BIM decisions," said Huw Roberts, global marketing director, Bentley Building. "Dr. Khemlani's BIM survey and her comprehensive qualitative analysis highlight the important BIM issues very well."
Each respondent's overall preference for Bentley BIM vs. Revit was first based on his or her weighting of the 12 BIM approaches. The magnitude of the respondent's overall preference was then determined by his or her rating of the BIM features. In the case of a tie in the BIM-approach weightings, the BIM features alone determined the preference.
