SPECviewperf Graphics Benchmark Updated to Version 11
The SPEC Graphics Performance Characterization (SPECgpc) project group has announced the release of SPECviewperf11 graphics benchmarking software ($50 on DVD; free via download). This version includes a new GUI (graphical user interface) and fully updated view sets. More information and initial results from SPECgpc members are available on the SPEC web site.
CIMdata Whitepaper Examines Teamcenter PLM Solution
Product lifecycle management (PLM) consulting firm CIMdata has released a review of Teamcenter 8, a Siemens PLM Software collaborative product definition management (cPDm) solution. The forum opened with three topics: "Software Suggestions," "Accuracy Analyst Support and Help," and "What's New in Map Accuracy Tools." Once they register, users can ask questions and leave comments.

Autodesk Offers Free Trial of MapGuide Enterprise 2011
Autodesk is offering a free trial of its MapGuide Enterprise 2011 mapping solution, which was released in tandem with the company's Topobase 2011 infrastructure management tools. With MapGuide Enterprise 2011, infrastructure teams can use mapping information found in Google, Yahoo, and Bing maps in context with their own data, without writing any code.
Watsonlisp Prices Watson5.9 at 80 Percent off Previous Version
Watsonlisp has released Watson5.9 ($10), an artificial intelligence referencing agent for AutoCAD. The new release is priced at $40 less than the previous version (read the Cadalyst review of Watson5.8 here). The software locates detail drawings based on text and attribute content.
CityEngine 2010 Available to Freelancers, Students at Reduced Cost
With the release of CityEngine 2010, urban modeling software company Procedural has introduced new licensing models for freelancers (INDIE; $495) and students (STUDENT; $149). The latest version of the city creation software features interactive editing of dynamic city layouts, node-based rule authoring, and a sketching tool for facades.
Active Sensing Offers Free Evaluation of PLM Software
Visitors to Active Sensing's web site can download a free, fully functional trial of its PDXpert PLM 2010 Edition product lifecycle management (PLM) software. The product management solutions company has announced new system pricing for the software (read-only perpetual license: $196; read-only subscription: $7–12 per month).
NextEngine Provides Free Upgrade with RapidWorks Purchase
Customers who purchase version 2.0 of NextEngine's RapidWorks scan-to-CAD engineering software by June 30 will receive a free upgrade to version 3.0 at no charge, for a savings of $500. RapidWorks 3.0 ($2,995) will be released in July 2010, with support for SolidWorks, Pro/E, NX, and AutoCAD.

NIBS Becomes Green Building Council Education Provider
The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has recognized the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) as an Education Provider — a third-party organization offering green building education and training that has been peer-reviewed and approved by USGBC. The Institute received the status for courses on its WBDG Whole Building Design Guide web site.
Maptek Founder Named Innovation Hero
Bob Johnson, founder and chairman of mining industry software provider Maptek, was recently named an Innovation Hero by Sydney University's Warren Centre for Advanced Engineering. Johnson pioneered and commercialized technology that has benefited the mining, engineering, and surveying industries.
Autodesk Chooses Applied Software as Reseller of the Quarter
Autodesk has named Applied Software its North American Reseller of the Quarter for the first quarter of the 2011 fiscal year. The company is being honored for client growth, driven by an expanding staff of consultants and an increasing roster of partner solution providers.
