This Week's Software Tips
Reignite an Old Flame
Is there a classic tip that you just can't forget about? Use the "Submit Tip" button below to tell us about your favorites from the past, so we can tell your fellow CAD users how wonderful they are!
Annotation Scaling with Leaders
Senior CAD Manager Richard Navales Lim shares an AutoCAD tip using annotated scaled leaders to create linework. "I have used annotation scale since its introduction, and find it convenient and powerful when properly used. In architecture and building structure, for example, we often produce multiple scales for site development plans (1:200 and 1:100, for example)." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Greg Vice, a piping and instrument designer, sent in a tip that can help you edit dimensions in AutoCAD. "Editing dimensions can be a pain," says tip reviewer Brian Benton. "As this tip notes, you can shorten them with the Trim command, or extend them with the Extend command." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Plot to PDF Natively
Space Management Specialist Mitchell Hirschklau shares a tip about plotting to PDF natively in AutoCAD. "I would suggest that users make the AutoCAD 2010 Plot to PDF function their default plot routine (except for in-house 'check' plots)." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Macro: Freeze All Layers
Ted Kruysman sent us a macro that he uses in a custom command to freeze layers in AutoCAD. "I use a Freeze All command that I made up that freezes all of the layers in the drawing except the current layer in use." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Inventor Tip: Sketches on Faces
This video tip from Autodesk software training provider CAD Gorilla explains how surfaces of the 3D model can be used to position sketches for new features.
Normalization Extension for gvSIG Open-Source GIS Now Available
Visitors to the gvSIG website can download the normalization extension for gvSIG 1.10, an open-source geographic information system (GIS). This version has been updated to work on gvSIG 1.10, and allows users to separate chains of text into different parts and store them in table fields. These chains of text can have their origin in plain text files or in the records of a table field.
