This Week's Software Tips
Have You Heard about Harry?
When it comes to CAD code, Hot Tip Harry knows a good tip when he sees it! Use the "Submit Tip" button below to send us your LISP routines. If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use to purchase a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store.
Civil 3D User-Defined Parameters
Drafter Cody J. Guidry gives us a tip on how to create a user-defined parameter (and when to use one) in AutoCAD Civil 3D. "If you use Civil 3D, you should know how to make various point styles to fit your needs. Personally, I use points for labeling certain features in a drawing, e.g., points of intersection, survey benchmarks, etc." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Macro: F1 to @
Space Management Specialist Mitch Hirschklau shares a shortcut macro he made to save himself a keystroke each time he draws a line at a relative distance from the previous point in AutoCAD. "Macros are one of the best time-savers you can create in AutoCAD," said tip reviewer Brian Benton. View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Print White Text
Frequent tipster Leonid Nemirovsky and his coworker Dave Allison give us two methods for printing white text on a black background in AutoCAD. "There is no way to print in white, because printers don't have white ink or toner," said tip reviewer Brian Benton. "To get white text to show up on paper, you have to surround it with some other color, such as black." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Mechanical Designer Bill Patten sent in a great tip on using Change Space to switch objects between paper and model space in AutoCAD and keep their scaled size. Cadalyst has covered this command in the past (see Tip #3170, Change Space, by Jeremy Grove), but it definitely merits a reminder.
