Tips & Tools Weekly (Vol. 17, No. 27)
This Week's Software Tips
Longer Days Mean More Time to Share Tips
The beach, fireworks, picnics ... when you're making a list of your summertime favorites, don't forget the tips! Take a few minutes to share your tips — for AutoCAD or any other CAD software tool — with your fellow CAD users. If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use toward a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store. Use the "Submit Tip" button below to send us your tip today!
Access Block Attributes Across Multiple File Tabs
Mechanical design engineer Chris Edwards shares a modification to the original AutoCAD LISP routine AttOut that will allow you to access data in attributed blocks across multiple file tabs, rather than just one. "If you ever have needed to edit multiple block attributes across multiple layout tabs, you know this is where the AttOut command really falls short because it can handle only one tab at a time." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Use Draw Order Commands to Place Hatches behind Text
Tipster Maria Tzanetakou reminds us to consider draw order when using text over hatch objects in AutoCAD drawings. "Draw order can mess up your drawings if you aren't careful," observed Cadalyst Tip Reviewer Brian Benton, "especially when using hatch objects to highlight an area of your drawing." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Access Cloud Storage from AutoCAD 2013
Cadalyst Tip Reviewer Brian Benton reminds us about the cloud integration that is built into AutoCAD 2013. "AutoCAD 2013 has Autodesk 360 integration built in. Autodesk 360 is Autodesk's cloud service, and anyone can get a free account, which includes 3 GB of free cloud-based storage." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Review Cadalyst's Tip Submission Guidelines, then Submit Your Tip for your favorite CAD software. If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use to purchase a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store. Please remember to submit only code and other tips that are your original work (or provide the original source so we can include proper credit) and to tell us which software version you use.
By submitting code, you grant Cadalyst the right to print and distribute your code in print, digitally, and by other means. Cadalyst and individual authors retain all rights to the code; published code is not to be used for commercial purposes.
