This Week's Software Tips
You Can Be a Tipster Too!
Do you know a better way to work — in AutoCAD or any other CAD software tool? Why not take a few minutes to share your tips with your fellow CAD users? When you give, you'll also receive: If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use toward a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store. Use the "Submit Tip" button below to send us your tip today!
Take Advantage of Command Options
Frequent tipster Danny Korem explains that many AutoCAD commands have options, and that we should consider using them and not just the default settings. "Many times, AutoCAD users will select the first option they meet when they select a command — which is not necessarily the most efficient one in the context of their current task." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Collaborate with Design Feed
In his second tip this week, Danny Korem discusses AutoCAD 2014's newest feature, Design Feed. "AutoCAD (and its verticals) and Autodesk 360 (the cloud service) interact beautifully in the Design Feed interface, which I highly recommend." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Rearrange Order of Block Attributes
Khayoum Mohammed, a CAD manager and senior mechanical designer, shares a trick to help you order your AutoCAD block attributes as desired. "Attributed blocks provide a way for users to input data into each block instance," explains Cadalyst tip reviewer Brian Benton. View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Burst Before You Copy
Mechanical engineer Perry Pattiz explains why bursting an object before you manipulate it in AutoCAD is often a better choice than exploding it. The Burst command is different from Explode; it leaves the inserted values of attributed text intact, instead of reverting the attributes to their tags. View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Review Cadalyst's Tip Submission Guidelines, then Submit Your Tip for your favorite CAD software. Be sure to tell us which software version you use. If we publish your tip, you'll earn a gift card you can use to purchase a T-shirt or other prizes in the Cadalyst Store. Please submit only tips or code that are your original work. By submitting code, you grant Cadalyst the right to print and distribute your tip in print, digitally, and by other means. Cadalyst and individual authors retain all rights to submitted tips.
By submitting code, you agree that your code can be reused as-is or modified by other users in conjunction with AutoCAD or other software programs to gain efficiencies in that software for professional or personal use, and that your code can be shared freely among users. Users do not have the right to republish code in any manner or format (such as on a blog web site or in a printed document) for personal or commercial gain without written permission from Cadalyst and the original author.
