This Week's Software Tips
Dimensions Don't Frighten Me
Frequent tipster Danny Korem is not worried about getting AutoCAD dimensions correct, and here he explains why. "I have used tens of thousands of dimension styles in the last few weeks alone. After finding the right configuration of a dimension style, I'll never touch that dimension style again." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
The Power of Find and Replace
Tawfik Shehata shares how to locate specific attributed blocks in your AutoCAD drawing. "The Find and Replace command in AutoCAD can do more than just finding and replacing text." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Dimensioning in Paper Space
Robert A. Somppi explains how to circumvent a specific dimensioning issue in AutoCAD's paper space. "A lot of people who would like to do annotation in paper space (and even some who already do) think that there is a major stumbling block to that method of annotating your drawings: 'What if the view in the viewport needs to be panned? Then all my stuff is out of whack.'" View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Copy and Paste Layers to Excel
Cassandra Clouston explains how to easily get your AutoCAD layers into a spreadsheet file. "It really is that easy to extract your layers into a spreadsheet," commented Cadalyst tip reviewer Brian Benton. View the complete tip and post your feedback.
September Tips from Hot Tip Harry
Hot Tip Harry, Cadalyst's mysterious purveyor of customized AutoCAD code, has dispatched another great bundle of tips from readers. View and download each of the latest tips using the links below, or get the entire September 2013 Hot Tip Harry batch at once.
Measure Multiple Distances
Tip author Sanjay Kulkarni had an occasion to measure multiple distances repeatedly, but found the built-in AutoCAD commands too tedious. That experience inspired him to create this nice LISP routine to perform the task. View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Match Text by Selection
Frequent contributor Matt Sibum is back with a selection-based find-and-replace routine for text and mtext in AutoCAD. View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Filtered Flatten Command
To avoid some of the pitfalls of the AutoCAD Express Tool called Flatten, contributor Raymond Rizkallah has written this LISP routine that filters out all entities except lines, lwpolylines, circles, and arcs. View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Entity to Directional Arrows
Raymond Rizkallah's second AutoCAD routine for the month converts a polyline, line, or arc into a series of arrows. This could be very useful for showing direction. View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Convert Individual Text to Mtext
This routine from Benzigar Peter allows you to select any number of individual text entities and converts each of them into separate mtext entities. View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Determine Weights of 3D Objects
This LISP routine from Dean Culver will give you the weight of a selected 3D object in terms of various materials. After selecting the 3D object in AutoCAD, an alert box will appear from which you can select the desired material. View the complete tip and post your feedback.
