This Week's Software Tips
An Easier Way to Change the Snap Value
Sylvain Coupal sent us a couple of useful macros for using AutoCAD's Snap feature. "I use the Snap function most of the time and cannot work without it." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Use the Layers Palette for Layer Merge
Levi Connolly put his own spin on a previous AutoCAD tip. "I use the LayMrg command quite often for a quick drawing cleanup, and I recently discovered a new way to implement this command using the Layers palette." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Inventor Tip: Change the Display on Dimensions
This tip from David Gaskill shows you how to change the display on dimensions. "If you use parameters in your models, it may be easier to see the parameter of the dimension instead of the value, or maybe you want to see both." View the complete tip and post your feedback.
September Tips from Hot Tip Harry
Hot Tip Harry, Cadalyst's mysterious purveyor of customized AutoCAD code, has dispatched another bundle of great LISP tips from readers. View and download each of the latest tips using the links below, or get the entire September 2014 Hot Tip Harry batch at once.
Easily Freeze and Thaw Layers
Raymond Rizkillah's latest routine includes a set of macros to dynamically control layer visibility in an AutoCAD drawing with multiple xrefs, without involving the Layer Properties dialog box. View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Find the AutoCAD Version of a DWG File
This routine from Dean Culver will identify the last saved version of the current AutoCAD drawing. View the complete tip and post your feedback.
PasteBlock with New Name
What if you could intercept the action of pasting in a block and rename it on the fly? That is what this routine from Kent Cooper does. If you ensure it is loaded at startup by something like acaddoc.lsp, you can all but eliminate the wacky, random, automatically created block names like A$CFG5D32S. View the complete tip and post your feedback.
Staggered Fluid Hatch Pattern
Harold Detlaff has given us another nice AutoCAD hatch pattern similar to the one he shared in Cadalyst CAD Tip #4256. View the complete tip and post your feedback.
