HP announced today the immediate addition of the Shanghai 45nm Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor to the family of HP workstations.
According to the company, the AMD Opteron processor provides an increase in workstation performance compared to the previous generation Opteron processor, plus a decrease in power consumption at idle.
The workstation reportedly is ideal for high-end workstation applications, such as engineering, 3D digital content creation, oil and gas, and video editing.
"Power users can rely on HP to deliver the best of the best when it comes to performance workstations," said Jeff Wood, director, worldwide product marketing, workstations, HP. "HP will continue pushing the envelope of high performance while allowing for low levels of power consumption."
The workstation is registered as an Electronic Products Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) Gold product. All HP workstations reportedly are more than 90% recyclable by weight and incorporate a tool-less chassis design for upgrades by hand. Each workstation includes an 80 PLUS power supply, which reduces both the overall energy usage and the amount of waste heat released into the environment.
